Stroke and Cadence Philosophy

To help you become the most confident, efficient and fast open water swimmer possible.

Through experience in both pool and open water it becomes clear how much of a skilled based sport swimming is and how dependant performance is on mastering stroke technique and effeciency.

Unlike many ‘fitness’ based sports, no matter how much you slog up and down the pool or how many hours you spend in the water, without improving your fundamental swimming skills you will soon hit a speed plateau.

Through specific drills, practices and consistent feedback, improving your swimming is not as hard as you may believe.

Following our process you will improve your confidence in the water, your stroke mechanics and swimming efficiency which will enable you to achieve optimum ‘feel’ for the water, resulting in effortlessly faster times.

The Coaching Process

The coaching focuses on technique and open water  skills, but depending on your confidence levels and experience this can initially be developed in a pool setting. Coaching can be delivered as one to one or to a group .

Open Water Skills

As part of our coaching program we will introduce and practice the following open water skills. These will be covered over a series of lessons, depending on experience and ability.

  • Introduction to swimming in open water
  • Acclimatising to cold water
  • Entry and exit
  • Breathing and timing
  • Swimming straight and sighting
  • Drafting
  • Turning
  • Mass starts and finishes
